Well, the world is changing around us and so is the very notion of work, and if anything, the pandemic is only speeding up the changes meaning we definitely need to be ahead of this curve. As we look around us work is already not a place you go every day, it’s not someplace where we judge people’s effectiveness by how much face time they’re putting in, and as we go into 2021 and beyond the changes are going to come even more quickly and they are going to affect every organization. How do you keep ahead of that? How do you keep ahead in a world where some skills are going to be obsolete and some skills are going to be needed? How do you prepare your labour force for what your needs will be?
I’m pretty passionate about the future of work. I’ve followed it for a long time. As I look at the many groups I’ve spoken to, I realize how difficult it is. you have to be able to manage a team that may not be together anymore. You have to be able to put together a strategic plan in a world where everything is changing so quickly. And you have to be able to plan your own life and career where it seems that all the parameters are different. You have to be ahead of a lot of things if you’re going to be able to do that effectively. Demographic changes through to the fact that we’re in the 4th industrial revolution that’s changing all our technology and changing all our assumptions, too. And you have to be ahead of the fact that the global economy is changing constantly and as we figure out the pandemic and where we might come out on the other side, we have to have a plan for that as well. I think that’s fine. I think we can handle that. I think you absolutely can be ahead of the curve. But it takes some effort; it takes sitting down and saying what’s happening with the work world and what are some of the things I need to be aware of.
As I said earlier, this is something I’m passionate about. This is something I’ve spent my career looking at it. I have written columns about it. I’ve written books about it. I even have a podcast now where I get to explore things in a lot more depth. I like to take what I’ve learned and apply it to real-world organizations. So, let’s put together a presentation that works for your organization, that’s crafted especially for you so that you can look at your challenges and get ahead of them. How do you deal in this world where work isn’t a place anymore? How do you not be afraid of the future? I think the future is exciting. I think that you can absolutely face it head-on. I think it starts with the right presentation, asking the right questions, and putting you in the right place to move forward, and being ahead of whatever lies ahead.
